Home / The room
Everything a sound passes through here, in the order it passes through it.
Listening position
Control room
An Audient ASP4816 in a custom wooden desk, with the monitor path running to a full-range near-field pair on stands either side. A keyboard controller sits under the desk for writing and quick reference parts.
The ceiling and walls are treated with a mix of absorption and diffusion, so the room stays even from the desk to the couch behind it.
Microphones
Ask for a specific pair in your booking notes and it will be patched before you arrive.

Matched pair. Guitar cabinets, brass sections, tabla and mridangam, room pairs on drums.
Figure-8
Large diaphragm reference. Lead vocals, violin, veena, acoustic guitar, anything that needs detail.
Cardioid
Valve character with real weight underneath. Playback vocals, voiceover, close brass.
Multi-pattern
Shockmount, pop filter and a settled headphone mix. Set up permanently so a vocal take never waits.
Isolated
Outboard rack
Outboard
Universal Audio Twin-Finity channels let the engineer blend a valve stage and a transistor stage on the same input, by ear, while you play. A soft vocal can be given body without compression; a loud one can be held back without losing air.
Conversion runs at up to 192 kHz, and the VU meters on the front are the ones you will see moving all session.
Also in the room
Independent mixes for each player, so the drummer and the singer can each hear what they need.
A weighted controller under the desk for writing parts, pads and quick reference lines during a session.
Cooled between takes and kept silent during them. Chennai afternoons are accounted for.
Room behind the desk for the band, the producer and whoever came along, without crowding the engineer.
